Cancer Causers: Pesticides and Herbicides
Crops in this country - on some 900,000 farms and millions of acres of land - are sprayed with 1.2 billion pounds of pesticide a year. Some 70% of livestock are also doused regularly with poisons, and that may play a major role in the proliferation of Creutzfeld-Jacob (Mad Cow) disease.
Many pesticides, such as aldrin, dieldrin, endrin and heptachlor, have been proven harmful to humans [and pets] and banned by the Environmental Protection Agency. The problem is that a significant amount of our food is grown in other countries - where the use of these chemicals is still legal.
It has been determined that people living in the industrialized world have as many as 75 pesticide and herbicide residues stored in their fat cells. Most of these compounds are fat-soluble and are therefore trapped in the body for an entire lifetime.
Importance of Essential Fatty Acids
We have established that Omega-3 fats prevent cancer and stop its spread by reducing inflammation. They do the same for neurodegenerative diseases, diabetes, hypertension, atherosclerosis, kidney failure, arthritis and heart failure.
Omega-3 fats also stop cancer by stimulating detoxification, building antioxidant enzymes and preventing DNA damage. Conversely, an overload of Omega-6 fats speed the growth and spread of cancer.
But I am always surprised that most doctors make little use of the information we have on this vital connection - while food producers continue to add tons of harmful fats to their products [as is so common in the pet food industry] - and our diets.
Avoid Soy
Of greatest concern is the recent finding that glutamate is a powerful stimulant of cancer growth and invasion. Our national obsession with soy is ludicrous when you realize that soybeans have one of the highest glutamate levels in the plant kingdom.
